What is “Detox”?
Detox, in the literal sense, is what happens when lymphocytes (type of white blood cell or lymphatic cells) become greater than red blood cells in the circulatory system. Basically, it’s what pushes built up damaged and mutated cells out of the body. This results in symptoms that can reflect the nature of those damaged cells, such as cold or flu-like symptoms, pains, or other ailments.
These reactions are the body’s way of communicating that it is expelling problematic elements from within. Problems occur internally when there is an over accumulation of free-radicals. Those are unstable molecules that harm healthy cells, proteins, and DNA. How free-radicals can be combated is a part of the detox process. Providing the body with enough nutrients and antioxidants results in cleansing the blood from free-radical damage and stabilizing the body as prevention from further harm.
Understanding how free-radicals can weaken our bodies and promote illness is important to understanding detoxification. The objective behind detoxifying is removing elements that harm our system and strengthening it for future assault. Please continue to our page on Free Radicals to learn more.
Free Radicals and Detox
Detoxifying with Raw Food
Detox happens as a response to our bodies having excessive amounts of antioxidants and healthy molecules supplementing the production of healing cells within the body. Cooked foods, as explained in Free Radicals and Detox, promote free-radical production in the body. This harms the system’s ability to function causing damage to cells, proteins, and DNA. This damage overtime is what culminates into disease, illness, and even cancer. Eating “living” (or Raw, Live, Life-Force Filled, etc) foods is essential in counteracting the damage that occurs in our intercellular system.
Because (non-cooked) plants contain phytonutrients, when eaten, our bodies receive those protective nutrients and assimilate them. This leads to balancing and healing of the body by cellular regeneration. A Raw Food diet results in constant regeneration of the body. And this contrasts to the degeneration that is happening by consuming cooked, processed, or animal-based foods.
Here is the full list of foods to avoid. This list is comprised of foods that should be consumed minimally in an effort to detox the body from chemical warfare.
Foods to Avoid
A Detox Lifestyle
It is important to note that a Raw Vegan Lifestyle is the same as a “Detox Lifestyle”. Eating a diet complete in Raw Food removes all of the mentioned foods above. This way of life can initially shock our system if we have been eating unhealthy foods for extended periods of time. Because we had acclimated to a certain diet for many years, our bodies need time to re-acclimate to a healing one.
As this process takes place, we can undergo discomfort. (As mentioned on our Transitioning page). If you commit to a Raw Food diet, you’re committing to a Detox Lifestyle. And that heals your body as a system, regularly. Pains, ailments, allergies, and more will disappear in time. When non-acid forming foods are introduced consistently, our bodies achieve a more alkaline homeostasis.
Disease, cancer, and illness can not thrive in an alkaline environment. And this is why it’s so important to be mindful with what we’re eating. We become what we consume. Because the body works diligently to maintain balance and regulate itself, we’re responsible for how successful or unsuccessful it is in doing so. If we want to thrive, then we need to commit to providing that to ourselves in every way we can!
This is why knowledge is so important. How it all works helps to make sense of why eating Raw Vegan, or even just healthier, is essential to our vitality and longevity.
